Reducing stone cutting noise

Using a conventional hacksaw in masonry produces an A-weighted noise level of over 102 dB due to the impact of each saw segment on the stone and the mechanical vibrations that excite the saw blade at high speeds of rotation.

We uses a steel blade with a series of laser-cut S-shaped cuts. These cuts are sealed by cold-rolled blades. Copper rivets can be added to the bottom of each slot. This treatment limits the propagation of sound waves through the blade surface. Laser cutting blades should last as long as standard blades and be strong enough for full-depth cuts. Typically, a 600 mm diameter lamination blade can only be reconditioned once, while a laser cutting blade can be reconditioned almost as often as a conventional blade.

Measurements using these ‘quiet blades’ when cutting similar stone samples showed a noise reduction of 10 to 12 decibels compared to conventional blade cutting. Cutting Dense Sandstone on ASM Profiler – Straight Cut @ 1200 rpm (37 m/s)

Application

Stone Industry

Stone has a wide range of applications in different industries, such as construction, interior design, sculpture, landscaping, monuments, and kitchen and bathroom design. Natural stone, like granite and marble, provides a unique texture and character to designs, while engineered stone, like quartz, offers more versatility in color and pattern. Stone is also durable and resistant to heat and moisture, making it a popular choice for countertops and flooring.

Ceramic Industry

Ceramic tiles have a wide range of applications, including flooring for homes, offices, and public buildings, such as hospitals and schools. They are also commonly used for walls in bathrooms and kitchens, as well as for countertops and backsplashes. Outdoor applications include patios, walkways, and pool surrounds. Ceramic tiles are also used in decorative applications, such as mosaics and accent tiles, and in artistic and sculptural installations. With their versatility in color, pattern, and design, ceramic tiles can be used in any space to create a functional and visually appealing environment.

Engraving Industry

Carving is an art form that involves shaping and cutting various materials, such as stone, wood, and metal, into intricate and detailed sculptures or designs. Carved objects can be used for decorative purposes in interior or exterior spaces, as well as for functional objects, such as furniture or architectural elements. Stone carving, in particular, has a long history of use in architectural and monumental structures, such as statues, fountains, and building facades.

Glass Industry

In the home, glass is commonly used for tabletops, shelves, and kitchen backsplashes. In the commercial setting, glass is used for storefronts, display cases, and partitions. Other applications of glass include mirrors, lighting fixtures, and decorative objects.
